Battery Backup Cache Module for RAID controllers
Battery backup modules are backup systems designed to prevent the loss of data in the event of a power failure. A basic distinction is made between two types:
FBWC Battery Backup
FBWC is the abbreviation for Flash Backed Write Cache. Here the backup takes place as follows:
- The battery is connected to the raid controller
- The battery stores the data in a system-internal cache before the data is stored on the server or PC
BBWC Battery Backup
- BBWC is short for Battery Backed Write Cache. The backup works as follows:
- The battery is connected to the raid controller
- In the event of a power failure, the battery can temporarily store the data for up to 3 hours
- However, after these 3 hours, the data is lost
- Acts as an emergency power supply for your IT components, so to speak
In our opinion, an FBWC backup specification is the better battery backup, since with this system the data is not lost after a certain period of time. So if you are planning to buy a backup module in the form of a battery, we definitely recommend operating an FBWC as an accessory. If you have any questions about the power supply or other topics relating to these products, our customer service can provide you with the right answers and information for every question. The price of these modules varies between € 10 and € 60. Depending on how it works, the price of your battery can be higher or lower.
