Temperature protection and ventilation:

Only install GBIC modules in environments that comply with the recommended operating temperatures. Ensure that the ventilation of the device in which the GBIC is installed is not blocked.

Electrical safety:

Disconnect the power supply from the appliance before installing or removing GBICs to avoid electrical damage. Ensure that the GBIC is compatible with the electrical specifications of the device.

Cleaning and maintenance:

Only clean the optical connections with equipment designed for this purpose to remove dust and dirt that could impair performance. Replace defective GBICs immediately, as malfunctions can lead to network problems or damage to other devices. Do not use non-certified or incompatible modules as this poses safety and performance risks. Ensure that the GBIC modules are compatible with the host device and the network cables used to avoid malfunctions.

Assembly and disassembly:

Insert GBICs carefully into the ports to avoid damaging the connectors or the device. Do not apply excessive pressure to avoid damaging the connectors. Ensure that the GBIC is correctly inserted into the port to avoid physical damage.

Handling:

Hold the module by the sides and avoid contact with the connection surfaces.

Transport and storage:

Store unused GBICs in antistatic containers and avoid extreme temperatures, dust or moisture.

Waste disposal:

Dispose of defective or unused GBICs in accordance with local regulations for electronic components.

Working with lasers (optical interfaces):

Never stare directly into the optical ports, as laser beams can emerge from the modules and cause eye injuries. Use suitable protective caps when the GBIC is not in operation to prevent unprotected radiation.
