IT purchase: economical and sustainable
Too many working computers and notebooks still end up in the bin, too many companies opt for ‘buy new’ instead of ‘repair’ and the ‘easier way’ is seen in disposing of the devices - besides, it's not safe enough to just delete the data on the hard drives, is it? The remanufacturing of used IT hardware is a sustainable and - if carried out by professionals - also data-secure concept in order to act in an economical and ecological sense. What advantages do you have as a company by selling your old IT and how does the refurbishing process work? We have summarised all of this for you in our new blog post.
Electronic waste - difficult to recycle, easy to produce
Despite our constantly increasing environmental awareness, we are still not changing our purchasing behavior enough. How quickly do we buy a replacement if the display of our current smartphone suddenly has a scratch? Is the work PC no longer fast enough or is our private notebook no longer "modern"? What starts with private individuals unfortunately does not stop with commercial companies. If there is no specialist for internal IT, things that could simply be expanded or repaired are discarded too quickly.
This quick, ill-considered approach not only harms our wallets, but above all our environment. According to the Statista portal, the amount of e-waste generated worldwide in 2014 was 44.4 million tonnes
(source: https://de.statista.com/statistik/daten/studie/792541/umfrage/erzeugung-von-elektroschrott-weltweit/) - In 2019, it was already 53.6 million tonnes. Their forecast up to 2030 is alarming: up to 74.7 million tonnes of e-waste are expected to be generated worldwide - a rethink and, above all, action is urgently needed here.
Security for the environment means danger for your data?
An argument that we hear again and again from companies that do not want to resell their used hardware - or at least the hard drives contained in the devices: They are afraid that their confidential data will not be completely deleted and could therefore fall into the wrong hands. And this is even justified: but only if you let non-professionals handle it.
For example, deletion programmes are downloaded free of charge from the Internet, which often do not offer what they promise - or worse still, they are infected with malware in order to cause targeted damage to computers and steal companies' data.Even ‘destroying’ the hard drive is only safe if it is shredded - no DIY attempts with a hammer or magnets please:Otherwise, individual parts of the hard drive can still be read.
Secure data erasure or data carrier destruction should therefore only be left to professionals - not only because they have the necessary resources, but also the required expertise. This is because it is often overlooked that an SSD is also installed in a PC or notebook in addition to the ‘normal’ HDD. If only one hard drive is deleted, this can lead to a ‘data disaster’. And: network devices such as switches must also be reset: They also contain information that allows conclusions to be drawn about the company (e.g. company name and IP address).
To be environmentally friendly, it is advantageous to reuse used hard drives. In a world dominated by ‘big data’, storage space is becoming increasingly ‘precious’. More and more information has to find space on ever larger data carriers. And although we live in the age of the cloud, companies should also protect important data on internal servers in order to have a backup in case online information is destroyed or becomes unavailable - hard drives are not dying out.
The mechanical destruction of intact HDDs and SSDs is therefore not only a pity for the hardware, but also an enormous double burden on our environment: because the storage space is needed, the HDDs and SSDs have to be produced again - which increases CO₂ emissions and the amount of electronic waste produced.
Our conclusion with used hard drives: reconditioning is more sustainable than producing new ones. Or as IT-Business puts it in its article ’Kreislaufwirtschaft statt Recyclinghof‘ says:‘ says: ‘Refurbishing used hardware ensures that functional hardware does not end up in the shredder prematurely for subsequent recycling. This saves raw materials and energy.’

IT remarketing: more than just buying and selling used hardware
As an IT refurbisher, we have a great responsibility - to our environment and, of course, to our partners and suppliers. A well thought-out service concept is the prerequisite here. After all, the professional refurbishment and disposal of your old IT can cost you time as well as money and effort. Save your human resources and rely on a reliable and secure partner - this not only minimises your effort, but also your risk (data protection / data security).
As a certified company, we offer BSI-compliant and audit-proof data erasure in accordance with the GDPR.The hardware is dismantled on site by our employees, securely packed (sealed collection of the hard drives is also possible) and transported to our in-house ETA-C (Erase, Test & Audit) test centre using our own transporter.Of course, data erasure at your premises is also possible.
Our seamless process is logged for you in a comprehensible manner and sent to you as an audit report. In the report, you will find a list of all devices with their serial number and exact equipment, as well as erasure or disposal logs for the data carriers. We work exclusively with certified erasure software (Certus or Securaze); as the customer, you choose the erasure method and the number of overwrites (1x, 3x, 7x).
Our modular service concept can be optimally customised to the needs and requirements of your company. The process is organised as follows:
- IT purchase
Contact us via our shop, our purchase form on our company website or by e-mail or telephone. We will provide you with a free and non-binding purchase offer for your hardware based on your list of devices. Do you only need your data to be erased, but then want to resell or reinstall the devices yourself? We will be happy to do this for you too - our broad service portfolio can be optimised on a modular basis to meet your requirements. - Logistics concept
Whether unpacked or palletised goods: we work with you to plan how, with what and when the hardware is to be collected. We offer you our own fleet of vehicles and collection by our own employees or collection by our long-standing partner haulage company from Regenstauf. - Rollout
In the course of collection, we can of course also carry out a rollout: this means that the devices are unplugged, dismantled and packed ready for transport by our employees - all outside your regular opening hours, of course. In this way, your personnel resources are spared and ongoing operations are not disrupted. - Inventory
The target/actual stock is compared on the basis of the original offer - the products are recorded with the serial number or your own article number.
The complete audit and refurbishing takes place in our in-house technical centre ‘ETA-C’. - Data erasure
You decide which software is used for erasure and how many overwriting processes should take place. All our erasure processes are certified, BSI-compliant and audit-proof. - Auditing & recycling
During the audit, all devices are checked for their technical and visual condition.Product details such as RAM, processor, hard drives and other components are recorded in detail - which means the highest possible buyback value for you. Naturally, you will receive a comprehensible and detailed report.
If defective or faulty data carriers are recognised or if data carrier destruction is required, we also pay attention to sustainability. By dismantling the devices, spare parts can be recovered for other systems - defective components are recycled by type and the raw materials recovered are returned to the product cycle. - Refurbishing
During the refurbishing process, appliances are standardised or upgraded: the more attractive the appliances are on the market, the higher the residual value we can achieve for you (revenue sharing). - IT sales
We not only have our own online shop, but also many partners in a worldwide trading network - so we can also make you an attractive purchase offer for ‘difficult’ goods, such as Unix systems, mainframes or more ‘atypical’ brands. Of course, this also works the other way round: Are you looking for hard-to-find spare parts or parts? Please contact us and we will endeavour to procure the desired product for you.
