• 🦹 Cybercrime: threat level remains high
  According to the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), 131,391 cybercrime cases were registered in Germany in 2024 - in addition to over 200,000 offences committed abroad or from unknown locations. The main threats: ransomware attacks (over 950 reported cases), DDoS campaigns and cybercrime-as-a-service, i.e. criminal services or access data trading, which are increasingly being offered professionally. According to Bitkom, the economic damage caused by these hacking attacks amounted to 178.6 billion euros - an increase of 30 billion compared to the previous year 2023.

• ⏳ Germany threatens to lose out on AI data centres
  According to a recent Deloitte study, Germany needs to triple its data centre capacity for AI applications by 2030 - from the current 1.6 GW to 4.8 GW. However, only 0.7 GW is currently under construction and 1.3 GW is in planning. This results in an investment gap of up to 1.4 GW, which requires around 60 billion euros in investment. However, this is not so easy in this country: challenges such as high construction costs & electricity prices are offset by slow grid connections and delays in expansion.

• 🤷 AI use in Germany: trust yes - control no
  According to an international EY study, many Germans use AI tools with great enthusiasm, but often without critical scrutiny. While around 31% of the global average check the results of AI, only 27% of users in Germany do so - just as few (around 15%) review the AI-generated content such as texts or images themselves. Experts warn against ‘blind trust’, especially in a professional context: 80% of respondents believe that AI understands their needs well (a top international figure).

• 📱 App boom on smartphones
  The number of apps installed on German smartphones is increasing rapidly: whereas the average number of apps installed in 2022 was 25, in 2023 it was Ø 37 apps and in 2025 it was even 42 apps - with under 30-year-olds even deleting as many as 55. Only around 11% of users regularly delete their unused apps - 44% rarely remove them and 5% never delete them. Bitkom expert Sebastian Klöß is not the only one who recommends regularly clearing out digital clutter for a better overview and performance - we do too. • ✉️ WhatsApp adverts: Not before 2026 in the EU
  Meta is planning to display adverts in the ‘News’ tab of WhatsApp in future. While the global rollout is already being prepared, the function will not be launched in the EU until 2026 at the earliest, Meta has informed the Irish data protection authority. Personalised advertising will then be displayed based on language, location, interactions and subscribed channels. Linked Meta accounts (such as Facebook or Instagram) can also be used for this purpose. According to Meta, personal chats, calls and status messages are not included - but data protection organisations still find this questionable.

• 🏗 Shop update in full swing
  Some of you may have already noticed: Our Serverando shop has been given a small update. Items can now be compared quickly and easily, product descriptions and technical data are clearer, loading times are faster and navigation is easier. However, we will probably only be able to finalise the implementation in a few days - we are of course happy to receive positive feedback, as well as constructive criticism or suggestions for improvement. • 🆕 DDR5 RAM modules and servers with DDR5 memory
  Refurbished definitely doesn't mean outdated - as our new additions to the shop absolutely prove. But: It pays to be quick, because we only have a very limited number of both the Hynix 64GB DDR5 RAM modules (P/N: HMCG94AEBRA123N) and the DELL PowerEdge R660xs server with 2x Intel XEON Gold 6442Y CPU available.   Summer, sun, sale offers at Serverando: We have reduced the price of many hard drives, servers and network switches - some bargains are definitely not to be missed. • 📰 New special feature on the blog
  After our big server special, you can now look forward to a new series on the blog. This time we are dedicating our articles to the topic of ‘Server RAM’. The first two articles ‘ECC-RAM: Server RAM with error correction’ and ‘The development of server RAM’ have already been published. Portraits of the individual DDR RAM generations will follow shortly.
  
  
• ✈️ Serverando international 2.0
  After our successful meeting with broker colleagues from all over the world in Croatia, we are already looking forward to the next meeting: the European Broker Meeting in Dublin. As ‘old hands’, we will not only be meeting existing customers and suppliers, but will also be making some new contacts to ensure that our virtual hardware shop shelves are always full.

7.3 TBit/s: This was the data load of the largest DDoS attack ever recorded in May 2025. 37.4 terabytes of ‘junk traffic’ were generated in just 45 seconds - the equivalent of around 8 million CD-quality songs being streamed.
